Creative and Design Direction

Designing the annual yearbooks for OVO Energy was a thrilling blend of sophistication, creativity, and subtle challenges. The goal was to create something that reflected the company’s forward-thinking ethos while still maintaining a timeless appeal. Sophistication didn’t just mean making the design look elegant—it was about creating something that felt as modern and innovative as OVO itself. Every detail, from the typography to the layout, had to evoke a sense of clarity, confidence, and pride. It was important that the design mirrored the company’s values: simplicity, sustainability, and progress.

One of the most exciting design challenges was achieving this level of refinement while using sustainable materials. The yearbooks needed to feel luxurious, but they also had to stay true to OVO’s eco-conscious philosophy. The recyclable paper was carefully selected to be both environmentally friendly and visually stunning, ensuring that the pages felt high-quality without being wasteful. The premium covers, designed to be striking yet understated, added an extra layer of tactility that made holding the yearbook feel special. Balancing sustainability with the premium finishes required creative problem-solving, but the result was a product that felt both ethical and exquisite.

Another fun aspect of the project was how open-ended the design process was. With free rein, I was able to experiment with everything from color palettes to paper textures, integrating small details that could subtly change year to year. The challenge was to keep the core identity consistent, while still introducing fresh elements that made each edition feel unique. I used Fedrigoni paper textures for covers. It allowed for moments of playfulness in an otherwise polished, sleek design. Incorporating OVO’s milestones, employee stories, and company achievements in a way that felt cohesive yet dynamic was a rewarding puzzle, making every new edition not just an archive, but a celebration.

The photo section was more than just a visual gallery—it was a tribute to the spirit of the OVO Energy team. It encapsulated the company’s belief that its greatest asset was its people. Employees could see themselves and their colleagues as an integral part of the OVO story, and each yearbook’s theme added a layer of depth, making this section one of the most anticipated parts of the annual release.
