Creative Direction and Design
For the key art of the TV show Breeders, an original production for Sky, I embarked on a unique and imaginative photoshoot that perfectly encapsulated the essence of this compelling series. Under my direction of the team and creative, and the renowned and brilliant photographer David Stewart on board; we aimed to create something truly special that would resonate with viewers and capture the heart of the show.
The shoot took place in David Stewart’s studio in Shoreditch, a space known for its character and distinct features, including a unique architectural element that became central to our concept: a hole in the ceiling. This allowed us an unprecedented opportunity to capture the show’s stars, Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard, from an aerial perspective, adding an intriguing visual twist to the conventional portrait.
The setting for our shoot was meticulously designed to reflect the intimate, chaotic, and heartfelt moments that define Breeders , the challenges of parenting seen in a comical perspective. The decision to shoot the bed from above was inspired by the show’s candid exploration of parenthood—the ups, downs, and tender moments in between. This perspective not only offered a glimpse into the characters’ world but also symbolized the overarching themes of the series: the close-knit family dynamic, the challenges of raising children, and the unfiltered reality of modern parenthood.
Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard were absolutely brilliant throughout the shoot. Their professionalism and personability shone through, making for a seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Their ability to convey the complex emotions of their characters, even in the stillness of a photoshoot, was remarkable. The chemistry between them was palpable, capturing the essence of their on-screen relationship and bringing an authentic warmth and depth to the key art.
The result of this meticulously planned and expertly executed shoot was a set of key art images that stood out for their creativity, storytelling, and visual impact. These images did more than just promote a TV show; they invited viewers into the world of Breeders, offering a hint of the humor, warmth, and relatability that the series provides.
